The quality of this image is very good, but I just wanted to point our the raised hearth for those folks interested.

Detail: raised hearth, cooking, food, cook pot, chair, table, backgammon, bird, parrot, bird cage, boy, barrel, metal basin, smoking pipe, jug

Raised hearths for cooking were found in Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and elsewhere, and were brought to the U.S. by early settlers. They provided a comfortable working height while cooking (no stooping!) and kept women’s skirts away from flames.
