Some of his buttons are unbuttoned. The statue of the woman leaning on the clock looks so relaxed. What is the animal next to her?

I think the animal next to the woman on the clock is a dog of the greyhound family of breeds. What the gentleman holds in his hand is not a letter, but a “visiting card.”
