Hi Jon, I love seeing these images every day and learning about the objects in use during the period. I am the curator at an 18th century historic house museum in North Carolina. Are there American paintings you can include in the mix?
there is such a peaceful, orderly feel to this painting. I get the impression of women quietly going about their daily tasks, preparing this to offer guests.
Great paitning. What do you think is in the vessel in the back right corner? Look like spice bisquits (ccokies) to me.
Vinnie
Well, we think they are unopened oysters, but on first glance biskets are what I thought.
Tough to tell if htey are oysters or cookies. Note the etching on the glass and carafe. Very fine detail on the glassware.
